The Top Ten Wrestling Movies

Every so often a pro wrestling movie comes out and it's hit or miss... usually a miss.

For some reason Hollywood has a way of throwing some shade pro wrestling's way. Nonetheless let's take a look at the top 10 wrestling films ... some of which might surprise you.

  1. The Wrestler: Mickey Rourke's comeback film about an aging pro wrestling who tries to quit the sport only to make a comeback that may kill him. A tour de force performance by Rourke, courtesy of bleak filmmaker Darren Aranofsky.

  1. Ready To Rumble: A pretty awful comedy with Scott Casn and David Arquette about two buffoons who try to help their idol regain his title. Oliver Platt plays their idol. Wait... Oliver Platt?!

  2. No Holds Barred: Hulkamania goes Hollywood in this film that pits Hulk against a wrestler by the name of Zeus, played by "Tiny" Lister.

  3. Paradise Alley: Sylvester Stallone's attempt to Rocky-fy Pro Wrestling. Stallone plays a

disabled vet who wants to get the hell out of New York and his ticket out is by playing Manager to his musclebound brother. It failed to take off at the box office and was the equivalent of a two hour sleeper hold.

  1. Nacho Libre. Jack Black. Lucha Libre. Funny, and was the last in a series of successful Jack Black movies.

  2. All The Marbles: Peter Falk, yes Columbo himself, plays a manager to a women's tag team, played by Laurene Landon and Bob Fosse favorite Vicki Frederick. It was what it was.

  3. The One and Only: Henry "Fonzie" Winkler turns in his leather jacket for a pair of tights as he becomes a pro wrestler in the 1950's. The 50's were good to him on TV. Film, not so much.

  4. The Wrestler (1974): Ed Asner.. yes, Lou Grant, plays a manager in this film that features wrestling greats Don Muraco and Dusty Rhodes. And Vince is in it. So much for Method Acting.

  5. Body Slam: Dirk Benedict attempts parlay his A-Team popularity into box office gold and gets Roddy Piper and Charles Nelson Reilly as well as John "Gomez Adams" Astin and Captain Lou Albano into the act. No. Just... No. Sorry, Roddy.

  1. Monster Brawl. Yes, Monster Brawl. Kevin Nash and Jimmy Hart headline this tour de farce where eight monsters battle it out. The movie also features RJ Skinner (aka RJ City) as a good guy turned monster. Slightly more entertaining than most recent episodes of RAW.

Hollywood, get your act together or may a thousand Rikishis rub his ample backside in your collective face.
