You Don't Have To Suffer For The Sport

In some circles there is the prevailing view that if you're not eating, living and breathing the sport 24/7 that you're not really serious about being a success.

I call bullshit.

When you hop on a plane to go anywhere, the flight attendant tells you that in the event of a loss of cabin pressure, you need to put your oxygen mask first before helping anyone else.

The things to help you live come first. That means having a roof over your head and food in your mouth, and keeping the lights on, and for God's sake, paying for health insurance so that you don't go bankrupt when you get hurt and don't have to panhandle on Gofundme. I'm not slamming that site, but you want to be in action and not in reaction to your life.

Can you afford to do things like buy gifts for loved ones for the important times in their lives or do you use the "I'm a wrestler... I can't afford shit" excuse? Sure people will understand, remember those people are no doubt showing up to your matches to support you. Make sure the support cuts both ways.

There is no reason to live in scarcity. Sure, you have to make sacrifices, but use your brain and don't let things turn catastrophic for you. There is nothing noble about eking out a meager existence and hoping or even worse, assume that you're invincible and that nothing terrible will ever happen to you. If it's going to cost you more to do a show than you're getting paid, don't do the show. You've worked your ass off. You take the risks. There will be other shows.

Take time off. Be with the people who matter with you. You can't recharge your batteries if you're always on the go. Take staycations. Treat yourself right. You can't be at your best if the rest of your life is in the toilet.

You deserve a good life. Don't settle for less. You come first. Remember that.
