As I've been immersing myself more into the Indy world, I'm stunned by the number of promotions throughout the world. I can't and won't even begin to count them all.
I think competition is good, but I can't help but think that maybe there might be too many promotions that are just trying to be the regional chapter of the WWE.
What I would love to hear from promoters is how their brand is different and not just more of the same? After all if you're doing the same thing that the WWE is doing, why would people come out to a live show when they can watch the same thing with bigger budgets for free?
Let's be clear here... I'm not slamming anyone, but I'm throwing down the gauntlet to challenge promoters to think outside the box and maybe reimagine their brand if necessary.
Promoters, I'm sure you'd like to charge more money so that both you and the talent can make more money, but have you actually asked your fans what they might want to see? What would they need to see and experience to pull more money out of their wallet? What is your ideal show, and what steps are you taking to make it happen?
Also, besides writing a bigger check or handing out more green to the talent, what can you do to let them know they are appreciated? For all that matters, how do you say thanks to anyone who shows up to help you run your proceedings?
When money is short, you can make up the difference with some gratitude... What can you do to let everyone know that you value them?
Just some thoughts to consider as you're booking your next card...
